The Sutter Buttes are the oldest and smallest volcanic range in California;
a geologic and botanical wonder, preserved as a private park by the Middle
Mountain Foundation. See http://middlemountain.org.

We'll meet in Yuba City CA at 9:00 a.m., ready to caravan to the preserve.
Some of us will travel up the night before, and others will start extra
early to make the drive before dawn (3 hours from Santa Clara County).

The hike is about 6-8 miles and 1000 vertical feet. This trip is suitable
for experienced hikers and their physically fit family members. The hike is
on trail, but the trail might be sketchy in places. The high point of the
Sutter Buttes is at only about 1500 feet; there should not be any snow.

The non-profit that owns the Sutter Buttes sends a naturalist guide to
accompany hiking groups. To cover the cost of the guide and to help raise
money for their conservation programs, they charge a fee of $30 per person.

This is a private trip and is not sponsored, approved or insured by the
Sierra Club.
