PCS Leader Trip Participant Screening

It is always the responsibility of the leader to determine who goes on the trip. Listed here are topics which can be used by a leader to screen callers. These are intended to be general guidelines. The type of trip will determine which are applicable.

  • Sierra Club member
  • Over eighteen years old (If under 18, need written permission from parent/guardian and emergency medical release form.)
  • Physical condition
  • Months/years of mountaineering experience
  • Difficulty and frequency of climbs
  • Navigational and route finding ability
  • Self-sufficiency
  • Technical training (depending on climb)
    • Rock - belay, rappel, anchor setting, rope handling, use of hardware
    • Snow/ice - use of ice axe and crampons, ice axe belay, avalanche training
  • Camping ability
  • Equipment necessary for trip (depends on trip)
